Lay Readers (Eucharistic Ministers): The lay readers of Saint Mary's are a group of volunteers, both male and female, who serve at Sunday and Holy Day services and officiate at the services of Morning Prayer. Readers are trained in the reading of lessons, the conduct of worship, and the administration of the chalice. Readers preside at the Daily Office, assist in the administration of Holy Communion, and officiate at services in the absence of the clergy. When needed, they can also assist the Rector in the carrying of the Sacrament to parishioners who are sick and shut-in. They enter a period of internship ending in their licensing as Lay Readers and Eucharistic Ministers. Lay Readers are under the direction of the Rector.
Ushers assist the congregation on Sunday and on Holy Days by providing hospitality and assistance to those who attend or visit the church for services. The ushers greet and assist the members of the congregation, collect the offerings, help to keep the services orderly, and return the church to good form following each service.
